Christmas Time Is Here

So why does that mean we are so busy!  I have neglected writing for a couple weeks because we have been BUSY.  And that is rotten.  Not that I haven’t been writing but merely that our lives have been waiting on other things.  Now part of that is due to the circumstances we are living in.  Temporary housing, moving, new job, trying to launch a vision for youth ministry, etc.  I have also been back up to Foursquare Puyallup to help with their Christmas production.  All have been exciting but sometimes during these times we forget what this holiday is really for.  The AFA is getting all uppity about the GAP commercials.  Christian groups have used this time to launch wars on pagans and governments for putting solstice displays up.  Is that the meaning of Christmas.. Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright?  This is the time to shed light on the beauty in the darkness.  Jesus.  Seriously.  Let’s spend our time as believers fighting for Jesus.. not fighting against everything against Jesus.  We are wasting our time looking like jerks most of the time when we really need to remind people that Jesus brings healing, peace, joy, wholeness, provision, etc.

The beauty of this season is that God sent his Son to this earth.  Not as a fully grown man, but in the form of a vulnerable and gentle baby.  God entrusted NORMAL people.  Normal people who made mistakes, who got angry, who worried, who were insecure.  He trusted normal people with Jesus.  He trusts us with a world full of vulnerable people.

1 Peter 2:9-10

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

We are a chosen people, ROYAL, HOLY, we belong to God that we may declare the praises of God because he called us out of darkness.  This is what we are called to do.  Declare his praises, tell other’s of his goodness.  Walk like you have something  to be praising about!

For me I need to hold my head up high too.  I need to remember that yes, I am a member of a Royal priesthood, but that I too am like Mary and Joseph: Normal.  I need God.  I need him each day.

So lets not be so busy.  Be normal. This year because of our transition, we have no tree, we have no decorations.  It makes it seem a little unlike the season and it feels like it is slipping by.  But the truth is that we didn’t need any of that, we still have Jesus and we will still celebrate his entering into this earth.  Merry Christmas.
